website link

Home and sub pages complete (for now)

The home page.  Teals still don't match up... and "ABOUT" is yellow-green because the mouse was hovering over it.

The About page, complete with scrolling div and search bar.  "ABOUT" is white because the mouse was on it. Right now I have a menu on the left with the headlines in the scrolling div listed.  I would like to figure out how to make those menu options links that will take you to the right place in the div.  I would also like to make the search bar work.

Careers page. It has the same issues as the About page...

Get Involved page.  Same issues as About and Careers.

Subpage progress

The subpage design is kind of boring right now... but I'm going to add some pictures!  I think I might add some small ones in the events / news section, and there will also be some in the scrolling div box.  I need to figure out slices to get this page working.  It also has the same color issue as the home page, obviously.

Home page update

My homepage, as is, has color issues... I saved both the background and the main page background in photoshop with #006666 as the teal color, but they don't match... the only thing I can think of is that the difference between JPG and PNG could be the problem.  Otherwise, I am still a little clueless about slices, but that should be remedied quickly.  I plan on making the top menu slices for right now.  The form in the bottom right corner turned out nicely, I think... though I don't think it really functions in any way... Also, I am considering making the main story a scrolling div box.  And I need to add real info to the Mission, Vision, and News boxes.

IJM Subpage Layout

This is the About subpage. I am putting a scroll div in for all of the About sub-sections.  The information on the right side is upcoming events / news.

Research: Splash and Home Pages

The Chicago Institute of Art has one splash page for 2 home pages, one for the museum and one for the school.  The splash page is very minimalistic and straightforward, but not boring.  The images for each home page change every few seconds.  Below is a screenshot of the splash page and each of the home pages.  All of the sub pages are different from each other, but uniform.  There is good unity throughout, but I'm not confused about where I am.  The only things that makes me sad are that all of the pages are really boxy, and that the color palette is kind of boring.  However, the designer was pretty good about designating different colors to each section.

Research: Homepage

I like the looks of this home page, though the very narrow design makes for a LOT of scrolling to get through everything.  It's a really warm and engaging page, but I spotted a couple of problems with the naming of pages (in light of reading "Don't Make Me Think".  One of the menu items is named "biz ladies", which makes no sense to me.  I think the only reason someone would click on that would be to see what the heck it was. Personally, I'm not interested enough to find out.  Overall, I like the depth and texture of the page most.

Research: Cool flash homepage

Attempting to find inspiration, I found a cool example of flash on a homepage and got a couple of screenshots.  The only thing I don't like about this page is the font choice on the top menu bar... The bottom menu is trendy / retro, while maintaining a clean and modern feel.  The paired images tend to have pleasing combined color palettes. I have been a little hesitant about going over 2 colors in my palette, but this is a good example of successful use of several harmonious colors used in discretion.
